Position Details:
The Opportunity:
The Academic Coordinator for Upward Bound South will assist the Upward Bound Director in the development and implementation of the Upward Bound Program (UB) in Bridgeport and/or Lake Roosevelt high schools. Duties will include coordination of program services, serving as liaison with high schools, building positive working relationships with key community stakeholders, providing counseling, academic advising, tutoring, tracking student contacts and entering data, conducting orientation workshops for students and parents, assessing student needs and developing an academic service plan for each student. A minimum of one day each week will be spent in each target school (as defined by the grant). The Academic Coordinator will work one-on-one and in groups with students and with the UB program team to support low income and first generation college students in completing high school and enrolling in higher education. Work closely with the Director and serve as Team LEAD in one or more program areas. Position is contingent upon annual receipt of federal funding.
Additional Information:
This is a full time (100% FTE), project position. This position is overtime eligible.
Temporary End Date:
This is a temporary position expected to end on August 31, 2026. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
Monthly Salary:
$3,750.85 - $5,397.56 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
Positions require a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Strong communication skills; public speaking, interpersonal and written communication.
Able to work collegially and to lead a team.
Able to travel for business purposes.
Possess specific knowledge of career counseling, educational opportunities and financial aid.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities involving excellent organizational skills.
Experience working with populations historically underrepresented in higher education, particularly low-income and potentially first generation students.
Able to work evenings and Saturdays on an occasional basis, and to spend up to 2- weeks in Pullman or on a college campus during the summer.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure of time and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience advising in or coordinating TRiO or other college access programs.
Experience managing, tracking, and reporting program evaluation data.
Knowledge of standard departmental processes.
Knowledge of the University strategic plan, mission, structure, resources, policies and procedures Experience in a secondary school setting.
Demonstrated experience facilitating groups, working on teams and/or working with community partners.
Experience with students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) and/or lived experience outside the continental United States or
within Native American, Mexican American cultures strongly preferred.
Two years (2) of experience specifically related to youth (age 13-19) services.
