The Opportunity:
As the Viticulture Technician at WSU's Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Prosser, WA, you will serve as a skilled technical specialist supporting viticulture and grape physiology research. Your work environment will span vineyards, greenhouses, growth chambers, and the laboratory. You will apply your skills to collect and process samples and research data, apply vineyard management practices, and operate farm equipment and research instruments. You will collaborate with growers, graduate students, and visiting scientists, organize and plan work for, and train, student interns and hourly employees, and keep accurate records of procedures and results. You will bring knowledge of viticulture techniques and understand wine and juice grape production practices, and use of farm equipment. You will preferably have a basic understanding of plant structure and processes, basic engineering skills, and be able to use laboratory techniques for determining plant components and grape quality.

This is a full (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $3,581.00 - $4,771.00 | Range 40 | Steps A-M | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in the applied, biological, chemical, physical OR agricultural sciences, AND one year of experience as an Agricultural Research Technologist 1; OR equivalent education/experience.
Must be able to obtain within 5 months of start date, and maintain, a public applicator's license for pesticides.
Must be able to obtain radiation worker approval within 5 months of start date and maintain a personal dosimetry badge.
Will be required to work during normal business hours but will also be expected to work early or late or, occasionally, on weekends as situations arise during growing season.
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance withSPPM 7.10and departmental driving standards.
Travel to training sessions that may be up to four hours from the home station, and occasionally require overnight stays.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science in viticulture, horticulture, agriculture or engineering degree.
Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish.
