Position Description:

The Department of English Literature at Barnard College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of 20th and 21st Century Global Anglophone, non-European Literature, written in or translated into English. Our preferred focus is within and across African, Middle Eastern, South Asian, Asia-Pacific and Caribbean literatures. We welcome candidates with a global reach [1] and expertise in additional fields of study, such as multilingual, comparative and diasporic approaches, postcolonial studies, media studies, critical race studies, disability studies, ecocriticism, queer and trans studies, among others. The start date for this position is 1 July 2025.

The successful candidate will teach a four-course load (2x2) and will be a teacher-scholar committed to inclusive pedagogical practices that engage and affirm all of our students. In addition to effective instruction, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake advising of a diverse population of undergraduate students and participate in faculty governance at the departmental and college levels. We also encourage applications from scholars whose research and teaching interests intersect with the college's interdisciplinary initiatives in the environment, racial justice and the study of women, gender, and sexuality.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in hand by 1 July 2025, a proven capacity for teaching excellence at the college level, and ability and desire to perform service within the department, college, and university.

Salary: $85,000 - $133,000 annually

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
