The College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholars with the ability to research in one or more of the following Sciences departments and disciplines:
Biology and Marine Biology
Chemistry and Biochemistry
Earth and Ocean Sciences
Environmental Sciences
Physics and Physical Oceanography
Psychology
Computer Science
Mathematics and Statistics
Pre-Engineering
UNCW postdoctoral scholars gain important training and research experience through their relationship with the university in ways that support and fulfill the research, scholarship, and teaching missions of the institution. The primary responsibility of the postdoctoral scholar is to conduct research and upon initial appointment, may provide oversight of research projects and personnel, project management, assistance in development and writing of proposals and manuscripts, data acquisition, higher-level interpretation of computational results and comprehensive data analysis. These activities may be carried out in both field and laboratory settings. Postdoctoral scholars will interact with a variety of academic departments, various units within Business Affairs and Academic Affairs and other UNCW departments as needed for project management.
The UNCW postdoctoral scholar will:
Have a primary faculty mentor.
Develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP) in coordination with their faculty mentor.
Participate in professional development programming offered through the University.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in one of the science fields listed above and conferred before the appointment start date but no more than five (5) years prior to the appointment start date.
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The College of Arts and Sciences is UNCW's largest academic unit, employing 450 full-time and 150 part-time faculty members and awarding approximately two-thirds of the university's academic credits. Ours is a comprehensive arts & sciences college comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences.

This position works closely with faculty and researchers in the College of Arts & Sciences.
The College's twenty-five units offer a variety of undergraduate majors leading to the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Fine Arts, the Bachelor of Music, and the Bachelor of Science. The College also offers a full complement of minors, including interdisciplinary minors such as Africana studies, Asian studies, Forensic studies, Latin America studies, Middle East & Islamic studies, Native-American studies, and Women's and Gender studies, among others. Graduate degrees awarded in the College of Arts and Sciences include the Master of Arts, the Master of Fine Arts, the Master of Public Administration, the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy (Marine Biology and Psychology). In addition, the nationally awarded Graduate Liberal Studies program offers a personalized curriculum of interdisciplinary study leading to the Master of Arts. Post-baccalaureate certificates in Applied Statistics, Environmental Studies, Forensic Science, Conflict Management and Resolution, Gender Studies and Hispanic Studies are available. Graduate programs in the College are designed to develop intellectual competence and to prepare the student for careers in business, industry, government, teaching or for further study at the doctoral level.

Employees in postdoc positions are considered temporary positions (non-permanent state employees) but do qualify for postdoctoral medical insurance and paid leave, unlike other temporary employees at the university.
