Position Overview:

Reporting to the Program Director, Occupational Therapy Program and Professor of Practice, the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Occupational Therapy supports the implementation of program initiatives and daily academic activities. The Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Occupational Therapy is responsible for teaching courses related to physical disabilities, rehabilitation, and other subjects focused on adults and older adults. This individual provides high-caliber learning experiences, ensures compliance with ACOTE standards, and participates in student mentorship through research and capstone projects.

The Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Occupational Therapy is expected to contribute to scholarship by developing and implementing research initiatives, disseminating findings through professional presentations and publications, and incorporating evidence-based approaches into teaching. Additionally, this individual engages in service activities by serving on institutional committees, advising students, and participating in professional associations and leadership roles.

The Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Occupational Therapy is knowledgeable about curriculum development, accreditation requirements, and student learning outcomes. They take the lead in fostering interprofessional collaboration, supporting clinical and capstone site development, and contributing to program governance.

Education and Experience: A doctoral degree from a United States Department of Education recognized and accredited program along with registration and certification as an occupational therapist by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), must also be a licensed occupational therapist in the state of California with at least two years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist, is required. A post-professional OTD, PhD, ScD, or an EdD degree and previous experience with tertiary teaching and scholarship is preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Teaching (50%)

• Teach courses relating to physical disabilities and rehabilitation, and other adults and older adults related courses.
• Provide active, innovative, and high-caliber learning experiences in relevant areas of expertise.
• Fulfill SHS teaching load requirements.
• Serve as course coordinator or contributing faculty, as assigned.
• Participate in mentorship of student research and capstone projects.
• Ensure compliance with ACOTE standards through course design and assessment.
• Provide documented expertise in areas of teaching responsibility and demonstrate knowledge of the content delivery methods.
• Other duties as assigned.

Scholarship (20%)

• Develop and carry out a scholarship plan supporting OTD program initiatives, student research, or other relevant professional needs.
• Disseminate scholarship through professional presentations, publications, or other relevant avenues.
• Demonstrate evidence-based approaches to support expertise in content areas.
• Other duties as assigned.

Service (20%)

• Serve on OTD program, SHS, and KGI committees, as assigned.
• Provide student advisement and mentorship.
• Participate in professional association activities or leadership.
• Support clinical and capstone program and site development and relationships.
• Engage in Institutional governance and community activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Professionalism (10%)

• Demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills that support the mission, vision, and values of OTD program, SHS, and KGI.
• Support professional, interprofessional, and clinical collaborations through developing collegial relationships within and outside the Institute.
• Demonstrate commitment to working as a team through innovative problem-solving and flexibility.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Strong ability to design and implement active, student-centered learning experiences that align with ACOTE accreditation standards and support learning needs.
• Proficient in course design, coordination, and assessment to ensure compliance with accreditation standards while integrating the latest advancements in the field.
• Ability to develop and execute a scholarship plan that contributes to OTD program initiatives, supports student research, and advances the occupational therapy profession.
• Skilled in guiding students through academic planning, professional development, and career readiness, while fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment.
• Excellent ability to convey complex concepts clearly, collaborate across disciplines, and maintain positive relationships with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
• Adaptable in navigating dynamic academic and clinical settings with innovative thinking, flexibility, and a team-oriented mindset.
• Strong ability to manage multiple responsibilities across teaching, research, service, and professional development while maintaining high-quality outcomes.
• Demonstrated commitment to upholding the highest level of professional integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all academic, research, and clinical activities.
• Available for occasional work on evenings and weekends, as event schedules may require.

Hours, Classification, and Status:

This is a Faculty, full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt position.

The regular hours of this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department.

Salary range: $110,000 - $120,000 annualized. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans. Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages.

Ability to travel locally, depending on business needs. Occasionally, will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time at activities/events on and off-campus.
