Position Overview
The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant Professor to join a dynamic research team focused on advancing cancer science, with a particular emphasis on the kidney cancer microenvironment. This non-tenure track position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, collaborate with leading scientists, and play a key role in laboratory operations and scientific discovery.
Duties and Responsibilities This position will design and conduct experiments that drive discovery in cancer science, with a focus on the kidney cancer microenvironment. Develop successful manuscripts and grant applications to support all or part of the research effort. Partner with Dr. Rathmell to oversee the day-to-day operations of a basic science laboratory. Responsible for daily management of laboratory compliance, safety, and organization, including laboratory IRB and IACUC protocols.
Requirements PhD or MD/PhD required; Considerable post-doctoral experience in basic research required; considerable experience in oncology required; proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in scientific, peer-reviewed journals preferred; understanding of key components of grant writing and obtaining funding in support of research required; experience with administration of funded research required. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
