The Department of Acquisition, Finance, and Manpower (DAFM) at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) invites applications for an Intermittent Lecturer position beginning Fall Quarter 2026 (September 2026). The successful candidate will teach courses in Human Resource Management and Policy within the resident M.S. Management program in Manpower Systems Analysis (MSA).
Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses related to Navy Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education (MPT&E) systems and Human Resources (HR) management, including workforce planning, personnel policy, talent management, recruiting, training, and performance management. Courses emphasize both analytic and applied perspectives relevant to defense manpower and personnel systems.
NPS is an educational institution within the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). It is located on the coast in Monterey, California, about 140 miles south of San Francisco. DAFM is one of the departments within NPS, which awards graduate degrees in sciences, engineering, national security, computer science, operations research, and management. Students include U.S. and international military officers from all services, as well as federal employees. DAFM has over 40 full-time faculty members, about 350 full-time resident students and approximately 200 part-time distance learning students. Minimum Qualifications for Lecturer, AD-03:
A graduate degree in a discipline that supports the departmental instructional needs;
evidence of teaching aptitude; and
expertise in the field applicable to the DoD
Minimum Qualifications for Senior Lecturer, AD-05:
A graduate degree in a discipline that supports the departmental instructional needs;
broad experience (typically 6 years) as a faculty member in accredited institution of higher education;
evidence of excellent teaching; and
a reputation for expertise in the discipline in the DoD.
Preferred Qualifications:
A master’s degree in Economics, Psychology, Human Resources Management, Public Policy, or related discipline, but preference will be given to Ph.Ds.
Demonstrated expertise in Navy MPT&E systems; preference for Navy leadership in HR Management.
Ability to teach and mentor graduate students in Navy HR Management.
Proven teaching effectiveness (either as a dedicated course or within a broader course).
We will consider strong ABD applicants or those with substantial leadership, operational, or policy experience in Navy or Marine Corps manpower, personnel, training, and education systems management.
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
